Here’s a look at how congressmen voted the previous week, July 30th through August 5th.

In addition to the roll-call votes of the week, the Senate also passed a resolution (p. Res. 310) in which it expressed its solidarity with Cuban citizens who peacefully demonstrated for fundamental freedoms, condemned the acts of repression of the Cuban regime and the immediate release arbitrarily of detainees claiming Cuban citizens; the RENACER Act (p. 1041) to advance the strategic alignment of US diplomatic instruments towards the realization of free, fair and transparent elections in Nicaragua; and a bill (p. 812) instructing the Foreign Minister to develop a strategy to regain Taiwan’s observer status in the World Health Organization.

There were no important votes in the House in the past week.

VOTES OF THE SENATE:

Senate vote 1:

IMMIGRATION: The Senate has confirmed Ur Mendoza Jaddou’s nomination as Director of Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) for the Department of Homeland Security. Jaddou was the agency’s chief counsel for the last tenure of the Obama administration. A supporter, Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., Said that while serving as chief attorney, Jaddou “not only honed her command of immigration law, but also gained valuable experience in dealing with the administrative complexities and operations of USCIS.” The vote on July 30th was 47 for 34 against.

NAYS: Scott R-FL

DO NOT VOTE: Rubio R-FL

Senate vote 2:

HEALTH CARE OF NATIVALS: The Senate has one from Senator Alex Padilla, D-Calif. Sponsored amendment to the Invest in America Act (HR 3684) passed, which would increase the funding powers to renovate and build health care facilities for urban Native American tribal organizations. Padilla called the extended authority “an easy, free and non-partisan way to ensure that this package strengthens the infrastructure in the Indian country”. The vote on August 2nd was 90 yes to 7 no.

YES: Scott R-FL, Rubio R-FL

Senate vote 3:

HIGHWAY USE INQUIRY: The Senate has passed an amendment to the Invest in America Act (HR 3684), sponsored by Senator Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyo., Requiring the Department of Transportation to conduct a study of the use of highways and the cost of wear and tear caused by that use from highways. Lummis said, “A highway cost allocation study provides the data we need to make long-term, sustainable and financially sound decisions about how best to invest in our country’s aging infrastructure.” The vote on August 3 was 95 yes to 3 no.

YES: Rubio R-FL

Senate vote 4:

BORDER SECURITY: The Senate has opposed an amendment to the Invest in America Act (HR 3684), sponsored by Senator Ron Johnson, R-Wis., That would have prevented the repeal of contracts for building walls and other security systems in the U.S. border with Mexico . Johnson said, “Let’s not waste taxpayers money. Let’s acknowledge that walls work. We need to complete the 285-mile wall that will help secure our border, that will help secure our homeland, and that will help protect Americans. ”Opponent of Change, Senator Gary Peters, D-Mich said, “We need to move forward with smart, bipartisan investments that secure both our southern and northern borders, and we cannot look back on the boondoggle of the former government.” The August 4th vote was 48 in favor To 49 no.

YES: Scott R-FL, Rubio R-FL

Senate vote 5:

INFLATION AND SPENDING: The Senate said Senator Rick Scott said R-FL spending would increase inflation, in which case the funds would instead be used to reduce the national debt. Scott cited the need to “do something about inflation” and acknowledged that the $ 1.2 trillion spending proposed in the bill could harm consumers by increasing inflationary pressures. The August 4th vote was 42 in favor to 55 no.

Senate vote 6:

LIMOUSINE SAFETY: The Senate has passed an amendment to the Invest in America Act (HR 3684) sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, DN.Y., which requires the Transportation Department to develop seat belts and other safety requirements for stretch limousines. The vote on August 4th was 58 for 39 against.

YES: Rubio R-FL
