EREBUS protégé Jay Hanson will jump behind the wheel of a race-winning Supercar for his second season in the Dunlop Super2 Series.

As expected, Hanson has been confirmed for a return with the Erebus Academy/Image Racing program.

His 2023 campaign will come aboard EMH03, the Holden ZB Commodore used by Brodie Kostecki in the past two Repco Supercars Championship seasons.

Prior to that, it was driven by Anton De Pasquale to a race victory at the 2020 Darwin Triple Crown.

The car was handed over to Terry Wyhoon-led Image on Wednesday last week ahead of a February 14 test.

Hanson, 19, recorded seven top 10 finishes last year with a best result of fourth in Townsville.

“We’re going into the season with a lot more confidence and I’m looking forward to the new year,” he said.

“We have more experience under our belts now and by the end of last year, we were comfortably finishing in the top ten and finished the year with results closer to the top five.

“We know we’re going to have a good car underneath us working with Image Racing and Erebus Academy again, so there’s no reason we shouldn’t be shooting for podiums and race wins this season.”

This year, Hanson has stepped back from TCR Australia to fully focus on Super2: “I think it’s important to get our heads down, put all our eggs in one basket and really focus on Super2 and Supercars.

“I have a new car to learn which I was fortunate enough to do a few laps in last year, though it’s a different car and something I will need to adapt to.”

Erebus CEO Barry Ryan believes Hanson can contend for race wins in 2023.

“We saw a lot of potential in Jay during his debut season last year and we’re thrilled to see him back for another year,” Ryan said.

“We’re confident that with his full focus on his Super2 campaign, Jay will be fighting for podiums and race wins throughout the year.”

It’s expected that Erebus/Image will run two cars in Super2 this season.
