You have to call it 2ella right? If not, we may have to boycott.
Either way, a sequel to the prequel Cruella is officially in the works, with star Emma Stone returning as the title character. Isn’t a sequel to a prequel just … the first movie the prequel was even a prequel to? In that case, it could be because the final scenes of Cruella heavily teased the beginning of the original 101 Dalmatians’ plot. (Those scenes didn’t really make sense with the rest of the movie, which portrayed Cruella as a cool antihero rather than a dog hating mega-villain, but I think that’s irrelevant when there are more movies and money made.)
Deadline that this sequel is still “a long way off” and it is “currently not sure whether the film will be a pure theatrical release or, like its predecessor, will be released in households at the same time”. Cruella was released in both theaters and Disney + last spring. It grossed over $ 220 million in theaters worldwide and an undisclosed amount of $ 30 for Disney +.
Deadline also notes that Stone’s deal “is mutually beneficial, especially at a time when Disney is still evaluating the dynamic window model of its event titles,” and it follows Scarlett Johansson’s lawsuit against the company alleging that Black Widow on Disney + cost her the countless millions of dollars that she would have got if the film had only hit theaters. It seems Stone got the kind of deal that offers some kind of streaming compensation that Johansson claims she didn’t have on Black Widow.
If you haven’t seen it already, the first Cruella will be available to all Disney + subscribers with no Premier Access fee on August 27th.
Films from the 2000s that could never be made today
These films include some of the greatest of the decade. But all of them would have difficulty coping today.
