The second day of the SuperSprint in Symmons Plains offered even more bumper-to-bumper action than on Saturday. The Red Bull Ampol team prevailed despite some hiccups in the late afternoon. Monster Energy’s Cameron Waters had another hot start in qualifying, finishing pole for both races seven and eight. Similar to the sixth race on Saturday, Waters ousted Jamie Whincup in second after an early lead in the seventh race. There was a lot of contact in the first corner at the hairpin, including Shell’s Anton de Pasquale spinning and causing a lot of traffic jam in the middle of the field. The second lap of lap two saw even more chaos when the contact sent Boost Mobile’s James Courtney into the roadside signage before bumping into SCT Motor Sports’ Jack Smith and taking them both to the beach. Waters, Whincup, Erebus’ William Brown and van Gisbergen managed to avoid the clutter in the middle, and van Gisbergen took off. Whincup and Waters had a drag race on the straight on lap 25, with the former being able to cut into turn six after Waters was eliminated. Shell’s Will Davison did what he could to challenge Whincup, but his stability at the hairpin enabled Whincup to outsmart Davison. Whincup then did the same with Waters a lap later. Van Gisbergen, with a fresh set of tires, moved up to second place to his team-mate. Team Red Bull Ampol opted for teamwork over history, with Van Gisbergen keeping their distance from Whincup, who would win the race. Both cars were six seconds ahead of Davison, who finished third. Appropriately, the weekend wind subsided when the eighth race began. Waters and Mobils Chaz Mostert held the top positions, with van Gisbergen and Whincup having to cut their work for them in seventh and sixth places. Mostert shot for an early lead from the start. Waters took the chase, with Yellow Cover’s Zane Goddard (fifth) able to keep up with Team Red Bull Ampol right behind him and Team Shell in the lead. Mostert held his formidable lead throughout the race, with Waters owning solid properties in the second Whincup and Van Gisbergen doing what they could to gain a foothold in their starting positions, but Davison kept them in check when teammate De Pasquale finished third . The action got hot for the final three laps for second place as De Pasquale Waters tested and knocked out him before turn six. Then it was Davison’s turn to get on the podium and overtake Waters on the penultimate lap on the straight. With a lead of 11 seconds, Mostert did not worry and took his first race win since 2019.
