Disturbing winter weather in store for King Holiday Weekend

Central New York and the Mohawk Valley are about to take a roller coaster ride this weekend.

It all starts later on Friday, as temperatures from the 30s drop significantly during the day and into the night. Saturday morning lows in the valleys will drop to around 8 below zero overnight, with Saturday highs will have difficulty getting above 5 or 6 degrees.

In the west, the Buffalo Bills will play an NFL wildcard game against the New England Patriots on Saturday night as temperatures are expected to be close to 5 degrees at the time of the game. The temperature will dip as the game progresses, with overnight lows projected to hit around 9 below zero across New York state.

Temperatures will rise well into your low to mid 20s on Sundays, and they will get warm all evening and overnight into your low 30s. Then a coastal storm can be expected to hit the entire state with heavy snowfall, as well as the possibility of mixed precipitation. Either way, it will be a sloppy drive on Monday morning, Martin Luther King Day. Overall, early predictions expect 6-12 inches or more of snow in the Mohawk Valley

Forecasters have called the storm significant and named it Izzy. Only time will tell how much snow we get in the Mohawk Valley.
