According to an analysis by the AA, drivers of older cars will have to pay around £ 100 more per year for fuel if “greener” gasoline is introduced in the next month.

Owners of up to 700,000 cars are expected to switch to unleaded premium quality due to the change in standard quality.

From September 10 percent bioethanol will be added to regular petrol, which is obtained from plants and waste wood, among other things, in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. That is twice the amount of existing gasoline.

Older car owners, including some registered a little more than a decade ago, are advised not to use the new “E10” gasoline, as prolonged use could damage seals, plastics and metals in engines.
