In a high-speed accident, the car spins on the roof on Lifstan Way

In a high-speed accident, a driver hit a series of garden walls and collapsed onto the roof. He wrote off a parked car.

Witnesses said they heard the car race on Lifstan Way in Southend prior to the accident, causing passengers to “crawl” out of the rubble.

One passenger was hospitalized after being seriously injured in the crash.

A witness who asked not to be named could not believe her eyes when she saw the damage.

She said, “It was shocking.

“I sent my husband out and we could see someone crawl out of the car. One of the passengers screeched.

“An eyewitness said they were driving at a very high speed and I could hear that they were driving fast.

“It was really shocking what happened. Both of our cars are damaged and my husband’s car was written off.

She said, “Many of our neighbors have said that their property has been damaged in car accidents down here.

“It seems like people are using this as a thoroughfare.

“We haven’t moved in the area long and it’s the what-if and the damage that can happen if people keep accelerating.

“We need some speed control measures, whether it is a speed camera with bucking speed.”

An Essex Police spokesman said: “A silver mondeo crashed into a garden wall and a woman was trapped in it.

“She was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. She is now in a stable condition.

“Two other women surrounded the car and it was reported that a man had walked out of the scene.

“A 45-year-old man was arrested nearby on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of a collision, taking a motor vehicle without consent, driving disqualified and driving without insurance.

“He has since been released under investigation.

“Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call 101 and provide the crash reference number 1048573.”
