Paul Morris is proud after Nash took the first pole

Paul Morris was a proud father after Nash Morris qualified fastest in the Super3 class at Townsville, his first pole in a motorsport category.

Morris Jnr drove the two fastest laps of the 10-minute hit-out for the third-tier Supercars contingent and will be the final of the Dunlop Super2 Series Round 2 this afternoon from Nov.

The success comes just over two years after his debut in car racing in a Hyundai Excel at Queensland Raceway.

Since then he has also driven the Toyota 86s, TA2s and Stadium Super Trucks as well as the Supercar in Aussie Tin Tops, but has not yet qualified as the fastest.

“It’s actually my first pole in my career so I don’t really know what to do,” said Nash.

“But I’m really happy for the team, since yesterday, when we were a little slow, everyone has done a lot of work, but it feels great.”

The FG Falcon, built by Triple Eight Race Engineering and driven by the teenager with his father’s # 67 brand, is a 2019 Super3 Series winner in the hands of Broc Feeney as the helmsman of Paul Morris Motorsport.

It was also the first supercar Anton De Pasquale drove in the 2016 Super2 series and was previously driven by Paul Morris himself in both the Supercars championship and second class.

“I’m pretty proud of everyone,” said the Bathurst 1000 winner in 2014 after his son’s pole position.

“This car has a lot of heritage; Anton drove it, Broc won the championship in it, I drove it before, so to see how it goes and is still successful is pretty good. “

Michael Anderson was second fastest in the Super3 qualifying group in a Tickford Racing-built FG Falcon and will start the race 17th this afternoon.

Race 2 of Super2 starts at 1:25 p.m. local time / AEST.
