Businessman and philanthropist Ratan Tata’s car collection is unique in that it consists of some of your average everyday cars, as well as sports and supercars
Ratan Naval Tata is one of the largest industrialists in India, with many successes. He is the former chairman of the Tata Group, a multinational conglomerate active in various sectors such as automotive, defense, retail and commerce, IT, telecommunications, etc. Mr. Tata has a known love for cars, and not just those made by his own company, Tata Motors!
Here we take a look at some of the most unique and / or surprising vehicles that Ratan Tata has in his garage, from humble Tata cars to Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari convertibles!
1. Tata Nano
Tata Nano was the result of Ratan Tata’s vision to build the cheapest car in the world. Although he managed to achieve this feat, the vehicle was not a success in our market.
In 2019, a decade after its introduction, the Nano was discontinued. Tata-san has one in his collection and this is the most humble car he has ever owned.
2. Tata Nexon
Tata Nexon was the first Indian-made car to receive a 5-star safety rating (adult occupants) from Global NCAP. This was an extremely impressive achievement that earned Tata Motors much praise and recognition.
No wonder Ratan Tata decided to add one to his own car collection! The model he owns is the pre-facelift model in a lovely two-tone blue / silver shade.
3. Tata Indigo Marina
Ratan Tata loves his dogs and then bought an Indigo Marina just to take them on a joyride!

To better serve the purpose, he had his marina adjusted and the rear seats removed to create more space for his pets!
4. Honda Civic
This is another humble car in Ratan Tata’s garage, and it has been seen driving it around him many times!
His snow-white Civic is the older generation model, which is powered by a 1.8-liter VTEC petrol engine (132 hp / 172 Nm).
5. Mercedes Benz E-Class W124
The Mercedes E-Class W124 is one of the most famous vehicles from the German luxury car manufacturer. So it’s no surprise to know that Ratan Tata owns one.
Interesting facts: The W124 was the first car that Mercedes-Benz brought onto the Indian market in 1995 in collaboration with Tata Motors (then Telco).
6. Buick Skylark
This is one of the most unique vehicles that can be found in India. This particular Buick Skylark is a 1978 model and looks absolutely pretty thanks to its old school design.
This vehicle was apparently sold by Tata-san, but it is still one of the most beautiful cars he has ever owned.
7. Ferrari California
Any sports car / supercar collection would be incomplete without a Ferrari, right? Mr. Tata also owns a Ferrari California, an LHD model, and has been spotted driving around several times.
The vehicle packs a 4.3-liter V8 under the bonnet with 490 hp and 504 Nm, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
8. Jaguar F-Type S.
If you don’t live under a rock, you know that Tata Motors is the parent company of Jaguar and Land Rover right now. As such, this is basically another vehicle from Ratan Tata’s own company!
What it has is the turbocharged V8 variant with 5.0 l (495 hp / 625 Nm), a convertible model in a shiny red shade.
9. Mercedes-Benz SL500
Mr Tata also has a Mercedes SL500 in his garage, a left-hand drive model that he privately imported.
This particular model is the fifth generation of the SL, a convertible in a beautiful silver metallic color. He was seen driving the vehicle around him a few times.
10. Land Rover Freelander
Land Rover is known for building some of the toughest SUVs and the Freelander is a prime example of that.

Ratan Tata had bought one prior to acquiring JLR, and it was seen several times being driven around in it.
In addition to the above, Ratan Tata owns many other cars like the Mercedes S class, the Maserati Quattroporte, the Cadillac XLR, the Chevrolet C4 Corvette, the Chrysler Sebring, etc.
