A car auction based in SHERBORNE achieved record sales of classic cars and classic cars.
The family-run Charterhouse Auctioneers fetched a record £ 475,000 at their car auction at the Haynes International Motor Museum in July.
Owner Richard Bromell said, “We had a great lineup of 70 classic cars at Haynes, from restoration projects to supercars.
“With a strong market and many bidders eager to expand their collections, we had buyers from Australia.”
The highest drawing of the day was £ 40,000 for a 2003 Noble M12 GTO 3R. It was also the fastest car on the auction, with a top speed of 186 mph.
Elsewhere at the auction, a 1975 Ford Escort restoration project that had been stored in the garage for the past 25 years was sold to a father and son to be restored for £ 24,000.
There was another car that hit the right note among the bidders – a 2002 Jaguar XK8 Coupé by Spandau Ballet lead guitarist Gary Kemp. The silver car sold for £ 7,000, a golden sum for the 61-year-old musician.
