You really see everything for sale on the net, but there are times when you are literally knocked over by what you find. Such is the case with these two Chevrolet Suburbans from the 1980s that were converted into sedans.
We’re not exactly surprised that rare versions show up there, but it’s pretty unusual for the vehicles to be in Japan. That raises some questions. The two weather-beaten suburbans are offered on a Yahoo auction site and interested parties still have time to bid on them. Nobody has answered at the moment. The starting price is one million yen or CAD 11,379 each.
The two suburbans were designed and used as airport passenger shuttles. The beige model is from 1983, while the blue model is from 1987. A 454 cubic inch (7.4 liter) V8 engine sits under the hood.

The 1983 Chevrolet Suburban
The seller claims that these are two of only four examples of this variant that have been built worldwide. Several stretched suburbans were being rebuilt for this type of work at the time, but according to research by Motor1 website (which unearthed the auction) there are 8-door models that can be found online, but these 10-door are something unique.
Which gives credibility to the seller’s claims about their rarity.
As for the condition of the vehicles, that’s the bad news. Buyers do their job for them to restore them. And before it even comes to that, the question arises of how to take possession of it. One can imagine the logistics and cost of getting them from Japan to North America (or Europe). In fact, we think it might be best for a buyer to buy both models and build a decent model using the best components from each.
Either way, it’s a project for those who are persistent and like the challenge. It remains to be seen whether this can be made profitable in any way, via rentals, exhibitions, etc.
