Car theft warning: AA warns that electric car charging stations could be a target for thieves

Speak with He told Express.co.uk, “What we are worried about right now, the new one, is people who want to target electric vehicle cables.

“There are different metals in this wiring.”

As more and more drivers use electric cars, charging stations are being installed in the driveways and garages of many owners.

It is expected that demand for charging stations and the technology around them could increase as motorists buy new models in the run-up to the gasoline and diesel car ban in 2030.

He said thefts were likely based on “global commodity prices” at which criminals could “make money quickly”.

He said, “There is a real precedent for that. It was probably about 10 years ago when all criminals stole lead from the roofs of the church.

“The price of lead was very high.

“It was terrible because most of the churches had no security systems, nobody was there at night, and it was pretty easy for the criminals.

Many electric vehicles lock the charger to ensure safety. In some cases, however, this is not the case with frost.

Divert spokesman Mark Hall said part of the increase in theft was due to more cables becoming available.

He said, “As more people go green and choose electric cars instead of gasoline and diesel, there are more charging cables available to thieves.”
